A. Decker Creations respectfully acknowledges that I live, work, and create on the traditional territories of the Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, and Attawandaron (Neutral) Peoples.
This land is situated within the Haldimand Tract, land promised to the Six Nations of the Grand River, and is part of the traditional territory covered by the Between the Lakes Treaty.
As a Black artist, facilitator, and community advocate, I recognize the importance of honouring the original stewards of this land and the enduring presence, knowledge, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples. I am committed to fostering spaces of creativity, healing, belonging, and community while continuing to learn from and support Indigenous voices and communities.
We are all treaty people and share a responsibility to care for the land and uphold relationships rooted in respect, reciprocity, and accountability.
As part of this acknowledgement, I also recognize that not all people came to these lands as settlers. As a Black woman, I honour the histories of those who were forcibly displaced and brought to Turtle Island through the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and the ongoing legacy of the enslavement of African peoples. I acknowledge the resilience, strength, and contributions of the African diaspora and recognize the interconnected histories of Indigenous Peoples and people of African descent on these lands.
Through my work as an artist, facilitator, and community advocate, I strive to create spaces that foster healing, belonging, truth-telling, and collective care while honouring the histories, experiences, and communities that continue to shape this place today.
